IVF ramblings

My day started early today with a blood test. Remember how I don't like blood tests? Well, the nurse told me that it won't hurt as much if I drink a lot of fluids before I come for the test. So that's just what I did. I drank as much I could between the time I woke up and 20 minutes later when I got to the lab (luckily it is only five minutes away). And it actually worked and didn't hurt as much getting the needle in and out of my arm.

The unintended consequence of drinking all of this water happened about an hour later when I was teaching a class at the gym. I couldn't even get through the entire one hour class without a bathroom break. It was a little awkward.

Blood tests results were good (the test checks my estrogen level), so I am continuing with the same dose for the next two days. My next blood test and ultrasound will be in two days. I will probably be going back about every 1-2 days from then until egg retrieval, which is about 10-14 days from the beginning of shots (which will probably fall in about a week). During egg retrieval the doctor goes in with a needle and sucks all of the little eggs out of the follicles. The eggs are then fertilized. I will explain this process more in detail when it gets closer.

I haven't mentioned yet that I can actually feel the pressure of growing follicles in my ovaries. It sounds crazy until you have felt it yourself. It makes me happy because I think that means the drugs are working.
