It is called a house centipede. Unfortunately I have to come to know this because they live in my house. That's right, they live in my house.
Can you imagine coming across anything worse? Apparently they eat spiders.
I would rather have spiders.
I won't recount all of my encounters with these disgusting critters, but I will tell you one of them. Oh, and I will also mention that their legs detach quite easily (that has nothing to do with the following story).
Taylor was bathing on Sunday morning. I was just wetting his hair when I noticed something moving on his ear. Yes, on his ear. When it came into focus, I about died. It was a house centipede that was about 2 1/2 inches long crawling around on his ear. I freaked out. Luckily Taylor's curiosity got the best of him, and he was more interested in inspecting the critter than being scared.
We got it into the water where it quickly drowned. It was awful.
I hope to never see one again (although that is unlikely). After looking at this picture and writing this post, I feel like they are crawling all over me.

We had one in our bathroom a couple of months ago. Thankfully I have only seen the ONE, and thankfully Carl was around to kill it. They are SO creepy!
Oh my goodness natalie! I hate those things!! I was hoping to get away from them here but no such luck! I literally get hysterical when I see them. And they move so fast. Ew. I can't believe one was on taylor's ear!!!!
So gross. I think I killed one of them about a week ago in our basement. Our basement is full of spiders though, so maybe it took care of some of those for us. Hope you can enjoy some time free from seeing another one!
You should have put a warning before the picture not to scroll down to those with nightmares! Yuck! I have never seen them so big...I even hate the small ones. I'm glad Taylor was curious and not scared...that will make his dreams more pleasant I think! I keep thinking something is crawling on my leg.
That is revolting.
sounds like a nightmare. i would probably want to move house after such an incident :(
Ick! Those are nasty! Worse than spiders, and roaches and mice!
That is really gross, especially because it was on Taylor! Your posts about the free lunches and the post office are so interesting. It looks like your city needs somebody like you to figure out better solutions.
My skin was crawling just reading your post! I've only seen them in our basement here but we used to get them all the time on Rounds. Sickness. Does any kind of pesticide work???
I hate those bugs. We had one living under our couch for a little while. We had huge thick ones on my mission. We actually caught one in a jar and put it in the recycle bin. Gross.
Oh my gosh. That is sick!!! Those things really are super creepy looking. I feel like they are on me now too! We have scorpions, which scares the heck out of me. We've found about 4...no stings yet. Knock on wood.
Yup..we have them too! They do come up from the basement and they love bathroos but ohhhh how I hate them. I will quickly(because they are really quick) kill it with whatever I can find but squirming and whimpering the entire time..they are the only critters that will make me do this. Any other insect I just kill but these buggers...ohhh...lets just say I'm squirming right now. Hope you don't have to encounter another one!
Wow. We were just introduced to monstrous scorpion-looking creatures out here. I haven't seen one...yet. I'm glad you guys are doing well - you know, living in a mansion with centipedes and sometimes ornery children. :) We miss you!
When I was brushing my teeth last night, one was in the sink. Yuck! I'm really glad I've never found them on any of us. Knock on wood. Hopefully you don't see anymore for awhile.
One scared me to DEATH at about 4am the other night in my bathroom. Nothing like feeling sick in the middle of the night and turning on the light to find one of these nasty creatures in my sink! GAG!!!!
PS I'll have your pics for u today or tomorrow! :) They are darling. I wanna squeeze Taylor a little.
xoxo, Mallory
