Milford Sound

We left Queenstown and headed to Te Anau, about 2 1/2 hours away. We spent a lot of our time at the playground next to our hotel.
We also went on a tour to the glow worm caves. We took a boat ride across a beautiful lake to get to the cave. It was kind of exciting being inside the cave with the roar of the river below us. The glow worms didn't seem that exciting to me until we watched a video about them afterward. They only glow when they are hungry so they can attract bugs.

The next morning we drove to Milford Sound. It is gorgeous. It was carved out by glaciers, and the mountains are enormous. It is hard to see how magnificent they are in pictures, but if you look closely, you can see boats in some of the pictures. These boats give you something to compare the mountains to.

Next post: back to Australia!

Did you know that the waterfall at Milford Sound is twice the height of Niagra Falls! Can you also believe how much you drove in New Zealand? It must be nice to back in Australia where you can take public transit for very short jaunts!
