It's called the
Sunshine State, so that is what we were expecting. More sunshine. That's why we decided to have our last week in Australia be a trip to the
Great Barrier Reef. Relax by the
pool, go to the
beach, go snorkeling at the reef. Basically, just soak up a little more sun.
What could be better?
We failed to do enough research to find out
the place is loaded with crocodiles. You can't get in any lakes or rivers because, as the sign says, "
attacks may cause injury or death."

It
never stops raining (this is based on our sample of 4 days there).

And if you get in the ocean you are an idiot because you are
risking your life. It is box jellyfish season and you are likely to be stung.

So what do people do here?
We spent a day snorkeling and scuba diving at the
Great Barrier Reef. This made our trip to the Sunshine state completely worthwhile. It was amazing! I wish we had a waterproof camera so we could have pictures of the fish, shark, eel, jellyfish, and everything else we saw. Incredible.
Taylor stayed with a babysitter, as it was an all day trip and wouldn't have been very fun for him.

You can vaguely make out the reef in the background of this picture.

Adrian got to eat some crazy looking shrimp.

We also spent a rainy day in the rain forest of Karunda visiting Barron Falls.
Thanks to all the rain, the falls were spectacular.

We also got to see super sized moths. The coin next to the moth is about the size of a nickel.

Despite all of the reasons not to visit, we would go back any day.

haha - this made me laugh! what a trip!! love you guys and hope you are well:)
Sorry about the rainy weather (we had some while we were there too) but we absolutely LOVED the outer Great Barrier Reef. Once you go snorkeling there, you can never go back. I actually got a picture of a reef shark that swam right underneath me!!
Those falls are gorgeous! Lately I have realized how badly we need to see Australia. Never had much interest before. Thanks for all the info.
I almost had a seizure when i saw the size of that moth. SICK! I hate moths so much. You are super cute, by the way. :)
