The Rise of the Hot Tub

It is better to hot tub

Then to not tub

This past week my wife finally gave in and allowed destiny to happen.

"If we can afford it, then you can get a hot tub," she agreed. (All the while I've been thinking, "how can we afford NOT to buy a hot tub?")

For those of you that have never been to Buffalo, it can get quite cold here in the winter. So when I arrived six years ago I encouraged my parents to buy a hot tub. After experiencing a couple more of those cold winters, I pleaded with them to make the wise investment of installing a hot tub.

After five winters, I realized it wasn't going to happen. I decided that if I really wanted a hot tub, I would have to put it in myself.

Once I had the green light from Natalie a week ago, I started calling concrete companies, because I knew I needed a hard surface for the hot tub to sit on. To my great frustration, I learned that most concrete companies were fully booked until next Spring. In fact, I learned that this was the last week to pour cement before the weather got cold.

Feeling the urgency, I probably called a dozen places with no success. Just before I was about to give up, I made a call to Neil Munro, who immediately found me someone who happened to be looking for work. Three hours later, my yard looked like this:

Saturday we poured the cement pad, and we are ready for the hot tub.

We should probably get the hot tub in sometime this week.

I can hardly wait for the first snow! (See how suddenly my attitude about winter has shifted?)

When Natalie's Mom, Charlotte, found out about the hot tub she didn't feel very good about it,"If you guys put in a hot tub, you'll never want to leave Buffalo!"

I don't think Char needs to worry. I mean, just because we will be more relaxed, experience less stress and have high power jets massage away our every worry- doesn't mean we will necessarily stay in Buffalo longer. It just means that whatever time we have left will be that much more enjoyable.
