Have you ever thought that having a few little ants in your house was no big deal? So did I, until recently...
First of all, on Easter we had some friends over. I picked up our Easter basket and put it on the kitchen table in order to share the delicious chocolates inside. A few seconds later there were ants all over the table! We had left the basket on the floor and the ants had crawled inside. Embarssing! You would think I would try and kill the ants after that, but no.
The next Sunday (yesterday), I left my pj's on the bathroom floor during church. When I got home and put them on I kept feeling a sting on my leg. Finally I lifted up the pant leg to see what was going on and there was an ant in there, biting! I didn't know little ants could bite. Apparently I am the only person that thought this since, according to Adrian, everyone has known that since they were a little kid.
So today Adrian wakes me by saying (in a very soft, loving voice), "honey, I don't want to alarm you, but there are big carpenter ants all over our kitchen..." So I go in there, and he is right, they are everywhere. All over the floor, on the wall, and even a few on the ceiling. Where did they come from? It was the first sighting of this type of ant in our house! After vacuuming up all the ones I could see, I went straight to the hardware store and bought ant traps.
I still feel like I have ants all over me! I am not cooking at home tonight, we are going out.

Okay, every summer we have a huge infestation of ants here too. We can not leave one scrap of food out, if dishes are in the sink they have to be completely scrubbed clean and we have cans of raid everywhere. I think that we have finally figured out all the secrets, but isn't it gross? Last summer they loved to attack our dishwasher. You'd open it up when there were dirty dishes and ants were everywhere. Good luck with getting rid of them!
When you were talking about it you didn't make it seem this bad, but your post proves otherwise. I'm sorry you have the issue. At Home Depot they have ant/bug killer that lasts 6-9 months and its proven successful for us. We haven't had ants or spiders since I sprayed it last spring.
Any luck getting rid of these?
My family had ants in our kitchen. We had exterminators come out all the time but they always came back. But that was many years ago. Maybe they have some stronger new ideas 20 years later.
I hope so, for your sake. I am so sorry!
Bay leaves! Put bay leaves in any crevice you can find...windows, doors, wherever you see them most. For some reason the ants hate them. I didn't believe it until we tried it at our house. We went from killing about 20 ants a day to maybe 1 or 2 a week.
